A workshop on nature tourism and community leadership is scheduled for 8:50 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Jan. 17 at the Waco Convention Center.
The workshop will be held in conjunction with the 45th Blackland Income and Growth Conference.
The goals of the conference are to assist entrepreneurs in developing business opportunities in rural Texas, said Dr. Ashley Lovell, Texas Cooperative Extension specialist for entrepreneurship and economic development.
"Community leaders should also attend so that they can provide an environment and local infrastructure that is supportive of rural entrepreneurship and the expanding nature tourism development activities," he said.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the workshop starts at 9 a.m. Miles Phillips, Extension specialist in recreation, park and tourism sciences, will lead "Nature Tourism in Texas," a program focusing on starting or developing nature tourism businesses. Hunting, agriculture tours, on-site sales and other operations will be discussed.
Dr. Chris Boleman, Extension specialist, will discuss "Community Leadership and Community Development." Participants will learn about leadership traits, group leadership styles and theories, and strategies for effectively leading organizations.
The registration fee includes lunch. To pre-register, make checks payable to "Tarleton State University Account 221400" for $12.50 per individual and mail to Beth Underwood, Box T-0040, Stephenville, TX 76402 by Jan. 10. Registration at the door is $20.
