For a year Books and Crannies has used the small theater at the back of the book store to show classic movies. But what Ron and Gayle Harris really wanted was live theater.
They and a group of friends formed the Vagabond Players to bring another avenue for live performance. The name comes from the first theatrical group formed in America – Rogues and Vagabonds – when it was a crime to be a “thespian”.
Their first production opened Friday night.
Exploding Love, by Joseph Coyne and produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, is a one-act adult comedy. The tale of love, divorce and marriage illustrates that no matter how nuts you think you are, someone will love you.
The production stars veteran actors Jim Beavers as the Detective, George Guillot as Skeeter, Michael Hipp as Rory, Tom Marquez as Delbert Stumper, and Mark Reynolds as the Dog Angel. The production features three newcomers to the stage: Angela Adams as Fran, Margaret Law as the Officer, and Deneen Taylor as Winona. The director is Ron Harris, and Michelle Stambolija is in charge of lights and sound.
Performances Fridays (May 11 and 18) and Saturdays (May 12 and 19) begin at 7 p.m., and admission is $10.00. Sunday performances on May 13 and 20 are $8.00 and begin at 2 p.m.
Reservations are strongly recommended. Call 972-563-5481 for tickets. The Iris is located at 209 West Moore Ave. in historic downtown Terrell inside Books and Crannies.
