Trinity Valley Community College held three graduation ceremonies Friday, graduating 380 students.
Shanna Graf of Mesquite was the only graduate to receive Trinity Valley Community College’s highest honors distinction during the college’s first ever nursing program graduation ceremony.
Although there were three ceremonies, the first ceremony was unique. For the first time in college history, the nursing program had its own graduation ceremony in order to confer degrees upon the 119 students who completed that program this spring.
Ms. Graf received special recognition for being the only student among the spring nursing graduates to receive highest honors, meaning she completed her associate’s degree with a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
She plans to continue her education by attaining both bachelors and masters degrees in nursing. She ultimately plans to become a nursing instructor at TVCC. Ms. Graf has accepted a position in the emergency department at Doctor’s Hospital in Dallas.
Although Ms. Graf was the only nursing student to receive highest honors, seven other students in Friday’s graduating class received the distinction.
The other students receiving the highest honors distinction were:
Sara Bell of Tool. Bell will attend Texas State University this fall to major in forensic anthropology.
Natalie Brown of Malakoff, who plans to complete her bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Texas at Tyler.
Lisa Ferguson of Palestine, who is planning to attend UT Tyler and complete a degree in nursing.
Jeannie Hoffman of Athens, who plans to complete a bachelors degree in mathematics at UT Tyler.
Ricky Kennedy of Grapeland, who plans to eventually pursue a career in either film or graphic design.
Nichol Mattern of Palestine, who plans to transfer to UT Tyler and complete her bachelors of business and masters of business simultaneously.
Katie Wymore of LaRue. Wymore plans to transfer to UT Tyler to complete her bachelors in business administration.
Other students receiving special recognition were those who achieved high honors for maintaining a 3.8 GPA and those who achieved honors for maintaining a 3.5 GPA.
