An 18-wheeler struck a disabled SUV near Windmill Farms Tuesday night, seriously injuring the SUV’s driver, a passerby who had stopped to help, and the semi’s driver, a Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman said.

It took Forney fire fighters more than an hour to remove the semi’s driver from the cab. The truck’s load was scattered along the service road and crews still were cleaning up Wednesday morning.

The Good Samaritan, Carl York, 59, of Forney was taken to Methodist hospital in Dallas. Zach Dean, 21, of Wills Point, who was driving a Chevy Blazer, and the 18-wheeler’s driver Frederick Larkins, 37, of Princeton, La. were transported to Parkland hospital, DPS Cpl. Robert White said. All had serious, possibly life-threatening, injuries.

The Blazer was heading west on Highway 80 near Windmill Farms Road about 10:30 p.m. when it became disabled and pulled over. Mr. York had stopped to help Mr. Dean when the truck struck the Blazer. Mr. York was knocked into the drainage ditch.

Forney rescue crews were not able to pull Mr. Perkins from the truck cab until shortly after midnight.
