Forney sign language translator rushes to help
While not on the department’s list of translators, Cristal Jocoy rushed to the Forney fire department to help communicate with the deaf father of a critically ill one-month-old. She will receive a commendation Thursday and the baby’s family a phone communication device.

Terrell man finds old grenade in back yard
A resident in the 700 block of W. State Street discovered what appeared to be live grenade in his back yard this week.
He called Terrell police, who in turn, called the Mesquite bomb squad for help. The bomb squad defused the grenade using special equipment. There were no injuries or property damage.
It turned out that the grenade was heavily corroded and not a threat.

North Forney High School students will be the falcons and will wear black and blue.
The Forney school board approved the mascot and colors at its Monday meeting.

Forney parents, 7th and 9th grade students offered course on teen issues
Parents of Forney 7th and 9th grade students are encourage to attend a program Monday, Sept. 15 outlining ways to talk to their kids about such issues sex and teen pregnancy. Students will be offered similar information at school during the week.

Local Democrats to party
The Kaufman County Democratic Party plans a Fun Day from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 9443 429 South in Kaufman.
A cookout with hamburgers, hot dogs, iced tea and lemonade is scheduled. A $10 donation is requested.
