Combine fire department dinner and auction

Oct 23, 2007

Finding a person or a downed firefighter in a smoky building can be tricky business. A thermal imager camera can really help, but the cost ranges from $6,000 to $10,000.

The Combine Volunteer Fire Department hopes to raise enough money at its annual fundraiser to buy one of the cameras, Randy Roysdon said.

“If a building is full of smoke where you can’t see six inches in front of you, number 1 you can see where the fire is. More importantly, if there is a person down you can see the downed person,” he said.

The barbecue dinner begins at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the fire department on Davis Road and costs $7. An auction begins at 7 p.m.

Prizes for the best costume will be handed out to children, with judging starting at 6:30 p.m.

Mr. Roysdon said the department expects about 400.
