Sparse school elections
Mar 12, 2008
Forney, Kaufman and Terrell probably will not hold school board elections this year, but board members will change.
In Kaufman and Terrell, only the incumbents filed. In Forney, only two candidates filed for the two openings, but they are not the incumbents.
In Forney, Greg Pharris and Becky Dobbs, a former school board member, filed for the seats currently held by Jim Jacobs and Al Hogan.
In Kaufman, incumbents John Zaby and Britt Murrey were the only ones to file.
Terrell board president Dena Risinger and Place 6 incumbent Ann Kines McDonald in Terrell both filed as did Place 2 member Reginald Williams, who was appointed to the board late last year.
In Crandall, Robyn Reed Foster, who headed the district’s facilities committee, is running unopposed in Place 5 and Jimbo Newton is unopposed in Place 7. There are three candidates for Place 6 — Chris Walters, Rick Harrell and Danny Wayne Kirbie.
There are opponents in all three Mabank seats up for election. In a special election to fill the vacant Place 3, Paul Edmondson faces Tyson Johnson. In Place 4, incumbent Michael Cathey is opposed by Dr. Jeff Gaddis. And in Place 5, incumbent Scott Tuley is challenged by Todd Grimes.
Place 2 incumbent Steve Greenhaw in the Kemp district did not draw an opponent. In Place 1, incumbent Don Jedlicka is challenged by Larry Dalrymple.
In Scurry-Rosser, Chris Phillips is running unopposed for an unexpired term. Incumbents Todd Peavy and John Sutton along with Kenneth Kelly and Frank Skube are running for three seats. The top three vote getters are elected.
The school and city elections are May 10.
